This band has burst forth from the hellish bogs of the lower Mississippi,
namely New Orleans. LA, and unleasehed it's unique brand sonic destruction on
the world in a very short time. With only an EP and a few 7 inchers under
their belt before this, their first full length release, Soilent Green has
already wowed fans and critics alike worldwide with their cerebral carnage
and were, in fact, named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the 10 Most
Important Metal bands of the 90's. That alone is saying alot for a band so
relatively new to the scene, but after taking one listen to Sewn Mouth
Secrets I'm sure you'll see that the accolades are indeed duely warranted.
While they stay firmly rooted in hardcore, they constantly bend, stretch,
and break down the barriers of genre and continuosly suprise and shock the
listener not only with their aggression and passion, but with stunning
technical prowess and amazing creativity. The music twists and turns and
coils around the listener like some great serpent who's always prepared to
strike. And no matter what twists they take nor the mindboggling musical
feats they perform they always manage to retain this identifiable sound, this
similar thread of conciousness that runs throughout the album.
If you dig
other progressive hardcore bands like Cave-In, Converge, Dillinger Escape
Plan then you probably already have this album. If not, then you're
definitely missing the boat as Soilent Green is marching at the forefront of
a new age in aggressive music. Get Sewn Mouth Secrets and prepare to have
your face peeled off and your brains scooped out.
