This skinny white boy from Detroit, who's been up and down in this
business for about ten years, is definitely rocking all the way to the bank
with his latest album and is finally living the high life he's always singing
about after going platinum and rocking Woodstock '99. Strutting on stage in
true pimp fashion decked out in a long fur coat, cane, and hat, Kid Rock
launched right into his mega-hit "Bawitaba" and never stopped the rock
throughout his nearly two-hour set. Minus the midget and plus a bass player,
Kid Rock and Co. gave the people an ample dose of their smorgasbord of styles
this evening.
One of the few artists who can step outside of their "safe"
zone or genre and still be accepted for what they are, Kid Rock lets loose
with a fine mixture or rock, rap, blues, metal, and yes, folks, even the
dreaded "country" word, and never looses his sense of direction or integrity
in the process. So while he's laying on the sex (the two fine ass strippers
strutting around the platform behind the drum riser certainly gave the crowd
plenty of that!), drugs, and rock n' roll, he's also opening up the eyes of a
whole generation of kids who otherwise would've never thought to listen to
some of the styles Kid dishes out. From Hank Williams to Grandmaster Flash to
Aerosmith to Metallica, Kid Rock can run with 'em all. An intense and
eclectic show that impressed me greatly as Kid Rock proved that he wasn't
just all pomp and circumstance.
