Hometown heroes Jimmies Chicken Shack took the stage to the roaring
approval of the crowd and immediately launched into a ripping rendition of
their big hit off their breakthrough album Pushing the Salmonella Envelope,
"High". Lead singer/guitarist Jimmy HaHa strode to the microphone donning a
John Malkovich mask supplied by none other than the gang here at 1-Percent
the night before (we didn't think he was serious when he said he was gonna
wear it onstage!), and led the throngs in attendance in a rousing sing-along.
Four time veterans of this very HFStival, and with a brand new album under
their belts called Bring Your Own Stereo, Jimmies Chicken Shack has come
along way with their unique brand of "mutt-rock" (Jimmy's words, not mine!)
much in part due to the bands' killer live presence and hard work. I remember
seeing these guys in small little bars only about a year ago and now here
they are in front of about 40-50,000 fans. They peppered their set with songs
like "Dog", and "So This is Hell" from Salmonella and introduced many new
ones from Bring Your Own Stereo which continues much in the same direction of
hard hitting, yet almost catchy in a pop sense styled tunnage as previous
efforts. They proved once again here why they are one of the most popular
bands ever to come out of the Maryland/DC area and now they're setting their
sights on the rest of the country and finally, the world.
