Well, if it wasn't obvious enough by their moniker, Madison, WI's
Bongzilla like that leafy green shit. No, "like" is maybe too weak of a word
for it. Bongzilla. LOVES that leafy green shit. Their CD insert looks like a
Cannabis Cup spread with more flavors than Baskin' friggin Robbins
and they write songs with titles like"Sacred Smoke", "Budgun/THC", and
"Harvest". Their lyrics run the gamut from gospel-like praise of the Almighty
Bud, to tribal mantras like, "Load bongs not guns", to socio-political
commentary on, yes, you guessed it, legalization. And the music, well, take
equal parts Black Sabbath, Buzzoven, Blue Cheer, Sleep, Cathedral, and Cheech
& Chong and hybridize 'em all together and you'll get some pretty high
quality nugs, er, I mean sounds, indeed. They categorize it as "stoner
sludge" and I guess that's as close to a straight answer as you'll ever get.
In the increasing number of bands flying the "stoner" flag, Bongzilla has
defintitely taken a strong stance at the top of the heap with their imagry
and music. With Stash you get 8 heavy, rocking Bongzilla anthems plus one
glorious rendition of Black Sabbath's "Under the Sun". This is a definite
"must buy" for all you potheads out there, you know who you are. So, sit
back, pull a few tubes and sail away in budded bliss with Bongzilla.
